The Path To Permanent Lip Colour

Even with Coldsores

Set Yourself Up for Success

If you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters, many health practitioners advise to take anti-viral medication like Valtrex or Acyclovir starting 7-10 days before your lip tattoo appointment and continue the course for 7-10 days after to prevent outbreaks from the skin trauma. Seek advice from your medical practitioner before making your appointment.

Those susceptible to frequent cold sores should start taking a daily L-Lysine supplement 30 days prior – this amino acid inhibits viral replication while boosting collagen production for optimal lip healing. Again please speak to your medical practitioner for advice.

At the first inkling of an active cold sore in the days leading up to your appointment, postpone to avoid viral spreading and pigment rejection – only proceed once fully scabbed over and crusted.

Even with a formed crust, wait a minimum 7 additional days with no active sores before your session to bypass the lingering contagious period and you will need to be cleared by your medical practitioner before your tattooing can begin.

Disclose your full cold sore history, triggers, and current medications to your technician so they can customize the process and minimize irritation.

To safeguard your fresh lip liner investment, avoid disrupting the initial healing stages by abstaining from licking, picking, or aggravating the area.

As a precaution, continue taking anti-viral medication for 7-10 days after your tattoo appointment, as directed by your medical practitioner, to suppress any latent viral activity caused by irritation.
